Information for Professionals

All professionals in contact with children and their families must be aware of child abuse and neglect and of the need to maintain vigilance at all times.

The Child Protection Procedures are to be used when there is concern that a child is at risk of significant harm. Other needs may be met through multi-agency assessment, planning and delivery of service outside of the child protection procedures.

The procedures must be followed to ensure prompt and effective help to children and their families.

Joint agency training for staff is vital for effective child protection.

Supervision and support must be available to all staff working in child protection.
