Aims:
To enable participants to understand the effects of domestic abuse on children and young people.
To provide an overview of the roles and responsibilities of agencies involved with safeguarding of children.
Objectives:
By the end of the training participants should be able to:
- Identify what constitutes domestic abuse
- Understand legislation, national and local procedure and guidance
- Understand the effects of domestic abuse on children and how they can be drawn into violent situations
- Consider different methods of intervention and responses to families at the first point of contact where there are domestic abuse issues
- Recognise the importance of working in partnership with the families and other agencies and organisations
- Assess and respond to the risks to children and others where there is a history or current experiences of domestic abuse
- Consider the effects of stress associated with domestic abuse.
- Identify positive parenting for children.
