Aim:
To increase understanding of the effect of cultural and religious beliefs on practice when working together to safeguard and promote the welfare of black and minority ethnic children.
Objectives:
By the end of the course participants will have:
- Increased understanding of the influence of our own and families’ culture, race, faith and beliefs and how these might effect judgement when providing services to children and families.
- An understanding of the disproportionately poor outcomes experienced by black minority ethnic children.
- Explored the impact of racism and discrimination on children and families in achieving good outcomes and identified the barriers to accessing services.
- Explores good practice skills and interventions within assessments and services provided to black minority ethnic children and families.
- Identified messages from Serious Case Reviews – keeping the child in focus.
The course assumes knowledge of general diversity and safeguarding issues
