Parental Mental Ill Health and the Impact on Children

Target Group
Staff from statutory and voluntary agencies who work with or encounter parents or carers where the adult's mental illness may impact on their parenting ability and children's development.
Aim
To enable staff from statutory and voluntary agencies to understand the possible impact of parental mental illness.
Outcomes
By the end of the course participants should:
- Have an understanding of mental illness and understand the potential impact on parenting ability.
- Have an understanding of mental health and social care structures.
- Have an understanding of the impact of parental mental health on children.
- Have a greater understanding of how different agencies can work together with families where parents have mental illness and the range of different roles and responsibilities. The includes the relevance of the North Yorkshire Safeguarding Children Board Child Protection Procedures.
