Aim:
To dispel some of the myths of substance use while building the confidence of professionals to understand parents/carers and families to enable effective child protection work.
Objectives:
By the end of the course, participants should be able to:
- Recognise the effects of drugs and/or alcohol on parenting capacity and the effect this has on children
- Identify children at risk
- Recognise that some parents will administer drugs to their children and the consequences of this
- Assess within a multi agency framework, the risk to children whose parents misuse drugs and alcohol
- More knowledge of the various services in place to assist in supporting families, parents and children
