Parental Substance Misuse and the Impact on Children
Level 3 - One day
Target Group
Participants need to have a basic awareness of drug and alcohol misuse and child protection before coming on this course. This course is suitable for health visitors, midwives, school nurses, children’s social workers, probation workers, mental health workers – both health workers and social workers, GPs. Child protection co-ordinators in schools and early years settings, police officers and workers from voluntary drug and alcohol agencies.
Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants should be able to:
- Recognise the effects of drugs and/or alcohol on parenting capacity and the effect this has on children.
- Identify children at risk.
- Recognise that some parents will administer drugs to their children and the consequences of this.
- Assess, within a multi agency framework, children whose parents misuse drugs and alcohol.
