CHILDREN MISSING FROM EDUCATION

North Yorkshire Education Department have set up procedures to track the whereabouts of children leaving their schools without a destination school. This entails the Co-ordinator maintaining a database, following up contacts known to school, contacting other LEA’s, military bases etc., and also ESW’s visiting current occupiers, neighbours and checks with police, social services etc. If not found, letters of concern are sent to Social Services, Police and Health.

Many requests are received from other local authorities trying to find children, and checks are made on the Central Pupil Register on their behalf, with details kept on a database.

A database is also kept of children who move into the county and are not on roll at a school for various reasons, and also children who already live in the county but are not on roll anywhere.

A database of the children who are educated at home by parents is also kept.

For further information please contact the co-ordinator on cme.coordinator@northyorks.gov.uk
