The government consultation is seeking views about the proposed changes to Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) Statutory Guidance. The aim of the consultation by the Department for Education (DfE) is to help schools and colleges to better understand what they are required to do by law and what the DfE strongly advise they should do in order to meet their safeguarding responsibilities.
Many of the proposed changes are technical in nature and are intended to improve the clarity of the guidance and ensure consistency throughout. A copy of the draft guidance is included on the website below and a full list of changes the DfE are proposing to make is included at Annex G of the guidance.
There are a number of Designated Safeguarding Lead Role Consultation Events being planned. The events are being run to discuss the changes to the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to have a greater focus on improving the academic achievement of children who need a social worker, as set out in the KCSIE consultation. The DfE would like to hear your views on the role guidance and what additional resources, training or support would help DSLs to carry out this role. These events are for Designated Safeguarding Leads and school leaders. The closest ones to North Yorkshire are:
- Designated Safeguarding Lead role consultation event – Darlington, 19 Mar 2020 at 10:30 to 12:30
- Designated Safeguarding Lead role consultation event – Sheffield, 1 Apr 2020 at 10:30 to 12:30
