FREE help for North Yorkshire families with healthy weight and lifestyles

There is a new service in North Yorkshire for families with children aged 4-11 years old who are struggling to achieve a healthy weight and healthy lifestyles.  The Back2Basics programme will offer families support from the comfort of their own homes, in the form of access to online information and videos, support from a healthy weight specialist (via telephone or video call), and peer support from other families.  The service will be offered over 3 months and will be flexible to meet each family’s needs.

The service is being tested during 2021 as part of a research project between Leeds Beckett University and North Yorkshire County Council, to find out how digital and remote services can help families with lifestyle changes.

Almost a quarter of 4-5 year-olds, and almost a third or 10-11 year-olds in North Yorkshire are already carrying excess weight, and this can lead to a whole range of health and social problems for the future.  This service is one approach to helping those families in the county who would like help to achieve a healthier weight and to make positive changes to their lifestyles.

Professionals and organisations are invited to share this information and the recruitment flyer here so that families can self-refer to the programme.   Alternatively, staff can email the service and copy the family in, as way of an introduction.
