North Yorkshire and York are looking for an exceptional person to fulfil the sensitive, challenging and rewarding work of Child Death Review Officer. This is a unique role that requires proven minute taking, organisational and communication skills along with the ability to analyse trends and produce reports.

Child Death Overview Panels (CDOPs) were enacted as a requirement of Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018. The purpose of the CDOP is to ensure that when a person under the age of 18 dies, there is a comprehensive and independent review of the circumstances around that child’s death. The role sits within the North Yorkshire Safeguarding Children’s Partnership and supports the statutory requirements around the deaths of children across North Yorkshire and the City of York.

This is a challenging position which will require someone with a high degree of personal resilience, however they will be part of a small and supportive team made up of a Safeguarding Partnership Manager, two Policy and Development Officers and a Leadership Support Officer. The successful candidate will receive a range of supervision and wellbeing support as part of the role and will be encouraged and supported to develop relationships with other CDOP professionals regionally and nationally.

The successful candidate will work closely with both North Yorkshire and York’s Safeguarding Children Partnerships and with partners from Health and Police so it is essential that the successful candidate is able to build and maintain excellent working relationships. We are looking for someone who has exceptional business support skills, who can demonstrate excellent attention to detail and who understands the importance of multi-agency working.

We welcome conversations about this varied and interesting role and would encourage informal discussions to take place with Hannah Ellingworth, Safeguarding Partnership Manager, Hannah.ellingworth@northyorks.gov.uk  or 01609 533972.
