Welcome to the NYSCP June 2023 edition of our e-bulletin

Hello and welcome to the June edition of our NYSCP e-bulletin.

This month sees the launch of this year’s Safeguarding Week where the NYSCP have joined with NYC Health and Adult Services, East Riding and the City of York to deliver a fantastic range of learning events for professionals and parents. Running from the 19th to the 23rd June, all sessions are bookable via Eventbrite and the schedule of activity is accessible here: NYSAB (safeguardingadults.co.uk). We’re sure there will be loads of learning to take away from the events and we would love to hear your feedback via the partnership email address.

The British Nutrition Foundation’s 11th Healthy Eating Week is taking place from 12 – 16 June 2023.  Healthy Eating Week is all about supporting and promoting healthier lifestyles and this years’ theme is Healthy Eating Week – For Everyone!

The cost-of-living crisis continues to have an impact on the affordability of healthier diets for so many of us.  With this in mind, for Healthy Eating Week 2023, The British Nutrition Foundation are focussing on providing free, evidence-based advice and support for everyone who wants to find their way to eat a healthier diet regardless of these barriers.  For more information, please visit Healthy Eating Week – British Nutrition Foundation.  You will see in the bulletin this month lots of resources specific to North Yorkshire around healthy eating, oral health and cost of living support.

To end, the partnership is beginning to review the Being Young in North Yorkshire Strategy which comes to an end in 2024.  We would welcome feedback (via the partnership email) on the strategy and current priorities and any views about how we progress the strategy to improve the lives of children, young people and their families across North Yorkshire.

A Healthy Packed Lunch

A healthy packed lunch will give children the energy and nutrition they need to get the most from their school day – helping them to stay healthy, feel good and be ready and able to learn.  Just like school meals, packed lunches should be made up of foods from the main food groups in the Eatwell Guide and portions should be appropriate for a child’s age and size.  This will ensure every child has a healthy and nutritionally balanced lunch.  For inspiration of what to include in your child’s packed lunch visit – North Yorkshire Packed Lunch Guidance – Healthy Schools North Yorkshire

National review into the murders of Arthur and Star NYSCP Learning Event

In 2022 The Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel released the “Child Protection in England” document.  This review sets out recommendations and findings for national government and local safeguarding partners to protect children at risk of serious harm.

It examines the circumstances leading up to the deaths of Arthur Labinjo-Hughes and Star Hobson and considers whether their murders reflect wider national issues in child protection.

Following the release of the document North Yorkshire Safeguarding Children Partnership completed a series of exercises in order to reflect on the learning form the report and collate ley updates and training resources to share with wider partners.

The collated findings of the work of the NYSCP task and finish group can be accesses here: NYSCP (safeguardingchildren.co.uk)
